Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic Strengthen Economic and Trade Cooperation

Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic are enhancing their bilateral relations, with trade reaching $1.6 billion in January-November 2024. The milestone was highlighted during a meeting on Jan. 30 between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Kyrgyz Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev in Almaty.

The meeting focused on key areas of cooperation, including industrial collaboration, agro-industrial partnerships, water management, and logistics. Kazakhstan plans to boost exports across 175 product categories, with a focus on sectors such as petrochemicals, food processing, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and pharmaceuticals, aiming to increase exports by over $203 million.

Agriculture, which accounts for 20% of bilateral trade, saw a 5.5% rise, reaching $313.6 million. Kazakhstan exported 40,400 tons of grain and 53,200 tons of flour to Kyrgyzstan.

Investment was also a priority, with a major project being the construction of a ferroalloy plant in Tash-Kömür. In 2024, industrial goods turnover reached $985.5 million, with a 13.5% increase in Kazakhstan’s exports.

The two nations also made progress in the water and energy sectors, focusing on efficient irrigation in the Shu and Talas river basins. The transport sector saw a 16% increase in export-import road transport volume, totaling 1.7 million tons in 2024.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening trade and economic ties, setting the stage for further collaboration.
