Kazakhstan and China have agreed to boost cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), the Kazakh Transport Ministry’s press service reported on Feb. 26.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Maxat Kaliakparov and his Chinese counterpart Li Yang at the 15th Transport Cooperation Subcommittee session in Urumqi.
In 2023, the two nations digitized their permit exchange system for cargo transportation, which resulted in doubling the number of trips. Building on this success, the sides discussed further expanding cargo and passenger transport, increasing air travel routes, and opening new aviation corridors.
“The Chinese officials are interested in increasing cargo shipments to Europe via Kazakhstan using road transport,” reads the release.
This spring and summer, up to 124 weekly passenger flights are expected to operate between Kazakhstan and China. Additionally, an agreement was reached to permit unrestricted cargo flights, enhancing logistics efficiency.
Kazakhstan also announced the construction of the Moiynty–Kyzylzhar railway line, which is expected to shorten the Trans-Caspian route by 150 kilometers, further optimizing cargo transport times and costs.
