Kazakhstan and China Aim to Double Bilateral Trade by 2030

Kazakhstan and China reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic cooperation, setting the goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030, the Kazakh Ministry of Trade and Integration reported on Aug. 20.

During talks in Beijing, Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev and Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao reviewed progress in trade relations. According to Wang, bilateral trade turnover reached $43.8 billion in 2024, a 9.2% increase compared to the previous year, with $21.8 billion recorded in the first half of 2024 alone. Both sides emphasized that these dynamics demonstrate the feasibility of achieving the 2030 target.

To advance this objective, Kazakhstan and China are implementing a joint action plan and roadmap for cross-border trade within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The agenda highlights Kazakhstan’s transit potential, the promotion of high value-added exports, streamlined digital customs procedures, and strengthened cooperation in e-commerce.

The ministers also discussed investment opportunities in Kazakhstan’s real sector, projects for deeper processing of raw materials, participation in major trade and investment fairs, and closer collaboration with Chinese provinces. Both parties confirmed their shared commitment to expanding mutually beneficial trade and investment ties.
