Recent years have marked a period of intensified cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan across political, economic, and societal spheres, stated Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KazISS) Yerkin Tukumov during the fourth meeting of the Kazakh-Azerbaijani Expert Council on April 23, according to KazISS’s press service.
Tukumov emphasized that the growing contact and trust at the business level between the two nations open new horizons for collaboration. He noted Kazakhstan’s readiness to increase exports of 130 types of non-commodity goods to Azerbaijan, exceeding $340 million, thereby providing a strong boost to diversification and industrial cooperation.
He also pointed to positive dynamics in transport and transit links, highlighting a 62% increase in cargo movement along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route last year, reaching 4.5 million tons.
“The volume of oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline totaled 1.4 million tons, and we expect to reach 2.2 million tons per year in the medium term,” he noted.
To further enhance bilateral cooperation, Tukumov proposed focusing on infrastructure synergy, digital integration, and the development of regional research initiatives.
Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel also emphasized the strengthening of humanitarian ties, citing the first-ever Kazakh university education exhibition in Baku, which involved 23 universities, attracted over 1,000 students, and resulted in the signing of more than 40 cooperation memorandums.
