Kazakhstan improved its position in the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index, ranking 67th among 169 countries and moving up three places compared to the previous year, according to the latest assessment by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
The country’s overall SDG score increased from 71.5 to 72.0, reflecting continued progress in key areas of sustainable development. Kazakhstan ranked ahead of several G20 economies, including Indonesia, Mexico, Türkiye, India, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
According to the report, Kazakhstan recorded notable improvements in poverty reduction, food security, healthcare, water management and infrastructure development. Extreme poverty remains close to eradication, while child mortality rates have declined and access to basic drinking water services has reached 97.8% of the population. Mobile broadband penetration also increased significantly, rising to 119 subscriptions per 100 people.
The report further highlights progress in innovation and research, including stronger performance by Kazakh universities in international rankings and growth in patent activity.
At the same time, the assessment identifies several areas requiring additional attention, including education quality, gender equality, responsible consumption and production, reducing social inequalities, climate action, biodiversity conservation and institutional effectiveness.
