Kazakhstan achieved its strongest performance to date in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, with 10 new universities joining the list, according to QS Quacquarelli Symonds.
The 2026 edition is the largest in the ranking’s history, featuring 1,529 universities from 25 countries and territories across Asia. This year, 554 institutions entered the ranking for the first time, reflecting the region’s growing competitiveness, reported the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Kazakhstan led Central Asia with 44 universities among the region’s 112, ahead of Uzbekistan (22), Kyrgyzstan (6), and Tajikistan (1). Among Kazakhstan’s newcomers, Nazarbayev University debuted at 201st, while Almaty Management University entered the 741–750 range. Other entrants include the Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev Academy of Transport and Logistics (1001–1100), Abai Myrzakhmetov Kokshetau University (1101–1200), Alikhan Bokeikhan University and Caspian University (1201–1300), Rudny Industrial Institute, and Uzbekali Zhanibekov South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University (1301–1400), as well as Astana International University and Safi Utebayev Atyrau Oil and Gas University (1401–1500).
Kazakh universities demonstrated strong results in academic reputation, teaching quality, international cooperation, and graduate employability.
Kazakhstan remains the only Central Asian country with universities ranked among Asia’s top 100 — Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (38th), L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (61st), and Satbayev University (79th).
Currently, 29 Kazakh universities have strategic partnerships with global institutions, while 15 host international university branches, underscoring the country’s expanding global academic engagement.
