Kazakhstan is ramping up efforts to develop its national artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, with Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasizing the strategic importance of integrating AI technologies into government operations. Chairing a meeting of the Commission on Digitalization on July 18, Bektenov highlighted the role of a new national Supercomputer and modernized data centers as key elements of Kazakhstan’s AI infrastructure.
According to Digital Development Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, Kazakhstan is implementing its 2024–2029 AI Development Concept alongside a draft law on AI. The country is also investing in workforce development through programs such as AI Corporate, TUMO Center, and AI People.
At the meeting, officials presented several digital solutions already in use or under development, including:
The national QazTech platform, designed to accelerate IT product development, was another key focus. It reduces launch times for new digital products from several years to just six months while ensuring cybersecurity and standardization. Full deployment of QazTech is scheduled for August, with several public services already running on the platform.
Bektenov also directed all government agencies to finalize their Digital Transformation Maps within a month. These maps will outline concrete steps for integrating AI into public services, reforming outdated administrative procedures, digitizing data, and improving responsiveness to public feedback through tools such as the e-Otinish platform, hotline 109, and social media channels.
The initiative is modeled in part on international best practices, including Singapore’s approach to digital governance, positioning Kazakhstan as a regional leader in AI integration and digital transformation.
