India Sends First Container Train to Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), in partnership with Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan’s railway companies, organized the first container shipment from India to Kazakhstan, the KTZ press service reported on March 4.

The shipment includes 12 twenty-foot containers carrying ceramic tiles from Mundra Port, India, to Astana. The route covers 1,585 kilometers by sea and 4,300 kilometers by rail, passing through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Delivery is expected to take 25-30 days, depending on the workload at Iran’s Bandar Abbas Port.

This transportation is part of the development of container services along the eastern route of the North-South corridor. The route significantly reduces delivery times and transportation costs, enhancing trade opportunities for exporters and importers in the region.
