The European delegation confirmed its interest in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) by attracting expertise and investments within the Global Gateway strategy during the 21st meeting of the Kazakhstan-European Union Cooperation Council on Oct. 14 in Luxembourg.
Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, alongside Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, participated in a council meeting where they emphasized the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) to enhance logistics, trade, and investment between Asia and Europe.
They welcomed the establishment of a Coordination Platform for TITR development and highlighted the need for joint efforts to launch specific projects. The officials discussed green energy cooperation, particularly green hydrogen, and Nurtleu invited European partners to engage in related investment projects.
They also addressed transportation relations, emphasizing the need to simplify the EU visa process for Kazakh citizens and the EU’s willingness to negotiate visa facilitation agreements. Szijjártó noted Kazakhstan’s commitment to attracting direct investments and the opportunities for collaboration in energy following the recent referendum on nuclear power plant construction.
The discussions included food security, Kazakhstan’s potential for increased grain exports to the EU, and expanding educational cooperation for Kazakh students. They also touched on regional security challenges and climate change, with the EU expressing interest in Kazakhstan’s proposal to host a Regional Climate Summit in 2026. Nurtleu further met with EU High Representative Josep Borrell to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the EU.
