The Regional Ecological Summit 2026, taking place April 22–24 under the theme A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future, will convene senior policymakers, experts, and international leaders for three days of high-level plenaries and over 20 thematic and country sessions.
Confirmed participants include Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Emomali Rahmon, Vahagn Khachaturyan, Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua, OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioglu, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization Celeste Saulo, and Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
The summit will address critical challenges confronting Central Asia and the global community, including water scarcity, glacier retreat, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and pressure on limited land and water resources, according to The Associated Press.
While focusing on the region’s specific vulnerabilities, RES 2026 will also consider shared challenges faced by landlocked and developing regions worldwide—from drought-affected areas of Sub-Saharan Africa to glacial-fed river basins in South Asia and low-lying coastal and island states. The summit will emphasize regional cooperation to implement practical solutions, mobilize climate and development finance, enhance early-warning systems, and strengthen resilience across interconnected energy, water, and food systems.
