Kazakhstan Expands Eurasian Transport Hub Potential

Kazakhstan is reinforcing its position as a key transport and logistics link between Europe and Asia while exploring opportunities for deeper cooperation in the space sector. These priorities were outlined at the Berlin Eurasian Club meeting held in Brussels.

Opening the session, Kazakh Ambassador to Germany Nurlan Onzhanov underscored that Kazakhstan’s growing role in EU supply chains reflects a long-term trend supported by sustained economic growth and major infrastructure upgrades, according to the embassy’s press service.

Kazakhstan’s Permanent Representative to the EU Roman Vassilenko noted that the meeting coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which covers 29 areas of bilateral and regional cooperation. He highlighted the EU’s increasing focus on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, recalling that 20 billion euros (approximately US$21.6 billion) have been earmarked for its support, and called for concrete measures to accelerate the corridor’s development.

Executive Director of the Eastern Committee of German Economy Michael Harms emphasized that the EU’s Global Gateway initiative aims not only to connect China and Europe but also to strengthen interregional trade and enhance the EU’s neighborhood policy. German Member of the European Parliament Sergey Lagodinsky further noted that the EU is reassessing and deepening its engagement with the wider Eurasian region, underscoring Kazakhstan’s strategic importance.
