Over the past two years, Almaty has secured $19.2 million in investments for the advancement of its IT ecosystem, as reported by the city administration’s press service on January 5.
The Almaty IT Ecosystem Development project, launched in 2022, is a three-year initiative aimed at enhancing innovation in sectors including smart cities, artificial intelligence, big data, and sustainable development. The project has facilitated the participation of over 7,000 individuals in MOST events for IT enthusiasts, generating 5.37 billion tenge (approximately US$10 million) and creating 2,049 jobs.
Through acceleration and incubation programs, 309 startups have been established, with 16 reaching international markets. Additionally, 1,189 IT specialists and 101 business angels have been trained, contributing to the city's growing role as an innovation hub. The project also saw 55 specialists complete training in programs such as Digital Urban Planner and Smart City Engineer.
