The United Nations (UN) Global Compact SDG Ambition Accelerator Program concluded with an award ceremony held at the UN Plaza in Almaty on March 28, as reported by the UN in Kazakhstan press service.
The six-month educational initiative, crafted by UN experts, aimed to expedite the integration of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into the strategic and operational frameworks of businesses.
Running from October 2023 to March 2024, the program offered tailored training for Central Asian countries and provided assistance to representatives from 40 companies in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
During the program, companies like Jusan Bank, KazMunayGas, Satbayev University, and Kazatomprom showcased best practices.
According to Michaela Friberg-Storey, UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, there's a growing interest among the local business community in SDG initiatives, evident from the recent launch of the Business and Human Rights Accelerator in February and the forthcoming Climate Ambition Accelerator in May.
"Businesses play a crucial role as key stakeholders in achieving sustainable development goals," noted Friberg-Storey.
The Accelerator Programme has demonstrated its effectiveness in stimulating growth, creating job opportunities, and fostering innovation to tackle social challenges. Additionally, it actively involves businesses in combating climate change.
