The share of retail deposits held in Kazakhstan’s national currency reached a record 82% as of September, reflecting a continued shift toward tenge-denominated savings.
According to available data, total household deposits amounted to 21.6 trillion tenge (US$41.7 billion), an annual increase of 19.9%. Tenge deposits rose by 22.4% to 17.7 trillion tenge (US$34.2 billion), while foreign-currency deposits grew by 9.5% to 3.9 trillion tenge (US$7.5 billion).
All regions of the country recorded year-on-year growth in retail deposits, with the largest increases observed in Almaty and Astana, finprom reported.
