A new terminal at Shymkent International Airport officially opened on **Dec. 25**, initially serving domestic flights, with international operations expected to begin by the end of January.
Spanning 39,000 square meters, the terminal features modern infrastructure, including 25 escalators, 14 elevators, six jet bridges, and travelators, supported by an apron accommodating 10 aircraft parking spaces. With a capacity to handle 2,000 passengers per hour, the facility employs 700 staff.
The project, valued at 24 billion tenge (US$46.4 million), was funded by SCAT Airlines, which fully met its investment commitments.
Future plans for the airport include building an engineering and technical base, pilot training center, catering facility, and hotel. These developments are anticipated to create additional jobs, bolster regional economic growth, and position the airport as a pivotal logistics hub. Once international flights launch, the terminal is expected to enhance trade, attract tourism, and increase business activity.
