Qatari investor plans to invest nearly $50 million in a new airport complex in Atyrau

A Qatari investor plans to attract nearly $50 million to construct a new airport complex at Atyrau International Airport, which will be named after Khiuaz Dospanova. This information was reported during a working visit by Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev to the Atyrau Region on September 9.

According to the Ministry’s press service, construction of the new airport complex at Atyrau International Airport is scheduled to commence in 2025. This project will encompass a comprehensive modernization and expansion of the airport infrastructure, including the renovation of the existing terminal. The new complex will span 16,500 square meters and will feature three telescopic bridges to facilitate improved passenger access.

Reflecting Atyrau’s strategic location on the Ural River at the crossroads of Eastern and Western influences, the design will incorporate Eastern architectural elements inspired by the medieval city of Saraishyk on the main facade. In contrast, the facade facing the platform will adopt a Western minimalist design featuring stained glass.

Currently, the airport operates 89 domestic and 21 international flights per week. Upon completion in 2026, the upgraded facility is expected to increase passenger capacity from 800,000 to over 2.9 million annually.

The airport presently serves routes to Kutaisi, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Antalya, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Moscow, with plans to expand its network to include new international destinations across Europe and Asia.(Source:astanatimes)
