President Tokayev Meets UEFA President, Highlights Growth of Football in Kazakhstan

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin on April 25, where he praised UEFA’s consistent support for Kazakhstan and highlighted the growing popularity of football across the country.

President Tokayev noted that approximately 13% of Kazakhstan’s sporting community, or around 1 million citizens, are involved in football. He underscored the importance of establishing a sustainable, market-driven model for the development of domestic football and strengthening club management practices. Tokayev also encouraged deeper cooperation with UEFA through the implementation of educational and exchange programs aimed at enhancing the professional skills of coaches, specialists, and young players.

In response, Aleksander Čeferin expressed readiness to further expand UEFA’s collaboration with Kazakhstan, emphasizing the strong and productive relationship between UEFA and the Kazakhstan Football Federation, according to Akorda.

In recognition of his contributions to the development of sports in Kazakhstan, President Tokayev awarded Čeferin the Dostyk (Friendship) Order of the II degree.
