President Tokayev Meets Pakistan’s Army Chief

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Armed Forces, during his official visit to Astana on April 23, according to Akorda.

The parties discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including defense, military education, and the broader development of strategic relations. President Tokayev emphasized Pakistan’s status as an important partner in South Asia and noted the dynamic growth in Kazakhstan–Pakistan ties. He also identified trade, transport, and logistics as promising areas for expanding economic cooperation.

General Munir conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and acknowledged the positive momentum in defense relations between the two countries.

During talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, General Munir explored opportunities to enhance transit and transport connectivity, aiming to unlock greater trade and business potential. Minister Nurtleu stressed the significance of launching joint projects in agriculture, logistics, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and IT.

In a separate meeting with Defense Minister Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, both sides reviewed potential defense cooperation areas, including peacekeeping operations, military-technical collaboration, medical support, and training for combat and special forces. Minister Zhaksylykov highlighted Pakistan’s valuable expertise and Kazakhstan’s interest in deepening professional exchanges.
