President Tokayev Commends Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Agreement as a Historic Diplomatic Breakthrough

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has characterized the recent peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, signed at the White House on August 8, as a landmark achievement in regional diplomacy, underscoring its significance in resolving a protracted conflict, according to a statement by Ruslan Zheldibay, Presidential Advisor and Press Secretary, posted on his official Telegram channel.

The joint declaration, endorsed by the heads of state of Armenia and Azerbaijan, formally terminates years of military hostilities and establishes a framework for the normalization of bilateral relations, including the restoration of diplomatic ties and the advancement of multifaceted cooperation grounded in lasting peace and stability.

President Tokayev attributed the successful conclusion of the agreement to the vigorous and skillful mediation led by U.S. President Donald Trump, whose diplomatic engagement secured the requisite political commitment and strategic foresight from both parties.

Kazakhstan’s contribution to the peace process was highlighted by President Tokayev, who noted that Almaty served as a key venue for critical negotiations at the foreign ministerial level, facilitating consensus on essential elements of the treaty and reinforcing Kazakhstan’s role as a proactive regional mediator.
