Oil Transport via Kazakhstan-China Pipeline Reaches 13.1 Million Tons

Kazakhstan transported 13.121 million tons of oil through the Kazakhstan-China Pipeline in January-August, an increase of 2% compared with the same period last year, according to KazTransOil.

Freight turnover on the route reached 11.879 billion ton-kilometers, rising 3% year-on-year. The Kazakhstan-China pipeline remains a key element of the country’s oil transportation infrastructure, linking major producing regions with the Chinese market and supporting the diversification of export routes.

Overall, KazTransOil transported 30.639 million tons of oil through its main pipeline network during the first eight months of 2026, up 4% year-on-year.

Oil transportation through the MunaiTas Northwest Pipeline Company LLP system amounted to 4.302 million tons, increasing 10% from a year earlier. Freight turnover on the system rose 8% to 1.784 billion ton-kilometers.

The Batumi Oil Terminal group handled 1.251 million tons of oil, petroleum products and gas during the period, a 3% increase compared with January-August 2025.

Kazakhstan is also continuing efforts to diversify its oil export infrastructure by increasing shipments across the Caspian Sea and through Azerbaijan. In an interview with Trend, Kuanysh Keskinbayev, Deputy General Director for Commercial Affairs at KMG Kashagan B.V., said Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were working to optimize oil supply chains and increase transit volumes.

According to Keskinbayev, nearly 250,000 tons of oil from Kashagan and approximately 1.5 million tons from Tengiz are transported through Azerbaijan annually.

The rise in oil transportation comes amid higher global crude prices. On Monday, Brent crude futures increased 2.69% to $107.42 per barrel, while WTI rose 2.73% to $102.78. Urals crude gained 8.31% to reach $103.70 per barrel.
