Oil Production Resumes at Tengiz Field

The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports the resumption of oil production at the Tengiz field. The first well, Group Metering Unit (GSU) 52, was successfully restarted at 3:35 a.m. local time on January 31, 2026. Process facilities at the Pressure Boosting Facility (PBF) have also been brought online and are operating within standard parameters.

The PBF is a critical element of Tengiz’s upstream infrastructure, ensuring stable pressure in produced oil, gas, and associated fluids, while supplying downstream processing facilities, including the Second Generation Plant, with feedstock at required operational conditions.

As of January 31, five wells have been returned to operation. Technical teams from Tengizchevroil are preparing to commission the subsequent GSU-53. Production volumes will be increased progressively as operational parameters stabilize and industrial safety standards are fully maintained.

On January 26, the Second Generation Plant was successfully launched, utilizing feedstock from the Korolev field. The Ministry of Energy, together with KazMunayGas, continues to provide comprehensive support to Tengizchevroil to ensure an accelerated and safe ramp-up to full planned capacity.

Vice Minister of Energy Kairkhan Tutkyshbayev is on-site to oversee and coordinate restoration activities. The Ministry affirms that all operations remain under continuous monitoring, with strict compliance to industrial safety protocols upheld as the highest priority.
