On January 19, a new international trade and logistics center opened on the Kazakh-Chinese border near the village of Dostyk, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport.
The newly opened international trade and logistics center aims to enhance cross-border logistics infrastructure and augment the capacity of the Alakol road crossing. Deputy Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov mentioned during the opening ceremony that similar hubs for cargo processing and storage are planned for the future, and the newly inaugurated center serves as the initial hub on the eastern borders, particularly at the Dostyk entry point on the East Kazakhstan and Europe border.
With the addition of the new storage facility, the capacity of the Alakol checkpoint at the Dostyk customs is expected to triple, accommodating 600 freight vehicles per day compared to the previous 200. This expansion is projected to increase daily cargo turnover from 4,000 to 12,000 tons, contributing to an overall rise in cargo turnover from 1 to 3 million tons.
The cargo volume from China to Europe passing through Kazakhstan has seen a substantial increase in recent years, constituting 27% of Kazakhstan's transit traffic or 6.2 million tons, as stated by Transport Minister Marat Karabayev in November of the previous year.(Source:astanatimes)
