Kyrgyzstan Assumes SCO Chairmanship at Tianjin Summit

At the conclusion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, Kyrgyzstan assumed the organization’s rotating chairmanship for 2025–2026, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported. The next SCO summit will be held in 2026 in Bishkek.

The lakeside city of Cholpon-Ata, on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, was designated as the SCO’s tourism and cultural capital for 2025–2026.

Presenting Kyrgyzstan’s priorities, President Sadyr Japarov emphasized strengthening regional security through collective efforts against terrorism, separatism, and extremism. He announced the establishment of a Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime in Bishkek.

Japarov also highlighted plans to deepen economic cooperation by advancing the creation of SCO financial institutions, including a Development Bank, Development Fund, and Investment Fund. Enhanced regional connectivity, digital transformation, and climate action were identified as additional priorities.
