Key German companies have joined forces to establish a consortium for lithium mining in Kazakhstan

On February 16, the Ministry of Industry and Construction reported that prominent German companies such as Knauf Group, GP Günter Papenburg AG, Roxtec, along with the German Institute of Lithium (ITEL), have collaborated to establish a consortium dedicated to lithium mining utilizing Kazakhstan's deposits.

During Minister Kanat Sharlapayev's working visit to Germany, he held a meeting with Manfred Grundke, a member of the supervisory board of GP Günter Papenburg AG, a member of the Eastern committee of the German economy, and the speaker of the country group for Central Asia.

They agreed to establish a working group to explore the potential for lithium mining and foster cooperation. The discussions also touched on economic performances, mutual interests in energy efficiency, and the development of supply chains for critical materials between Kazakhstan and Germany.
