Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's national atomic company, has signed a significant agreement with ČEZ, a. s., marking a major step in expanding its presence in Europe and strengthening its position in the global uranium market.
Under the terms of the seven-year agreement, Kazatomprom will supply natural uranium concentrates to meet approximately one-third of the uranium requirements for Westinghouse-manufactured fuel assemblies at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant in the Czech Republic. This deal enhances the Czech Republic's energy security and supports the plant’s ongoing contribution to clean and sustainable energy production.
“With this new agreement, Kazatomprom continues to grow its footprint in the European market and advance its strategy of diversifying the sales portfolio. This is another important milestone in our mission to be a partner of choice for the global nuclear energy industry. As we build on our previous contracts, partnerships such as this one with ČEZ, a. s., allow us to support energy security in the region while advancing our shared goals of decarbonisation and sustainability,” said Kazatomprom Chief Commercial Officer Vladislav Baiguzhin.
ČEZ, a major energy company in Central Europe, operates six nuclear reactors at the Dukovany and Temelín sites, which together account for around 36% of the Czech Republic's electricity production. The official signing ceremony took place at ČEZ’s headquarters in Prague, with senior representatives from both companies present.
