Kazakhstan’s population reached 20,159,707 people as of July 1, according to the Bureau of National Statistics. Of this total, 12,573,637 reside in urban areas, while 7,586,070 live in rural regions.
In the first half of 2024, Kazakhstan's population increased by 125,867, with 118,579 attributed to natural growth and 7,289 due to migration.
Population growth rates were highest in major cities: Astana saw a 2.93% increase, while Shymkent and Almaty experienced growth rates of 1.38% and 1.33%, respectively.
This trend is largely driven by the concentration of economic and social resources in major cities, which attract internal migrants seeking improved opportunities.(Source:astanatimes)
