Kazakhstan’s green energy generation increased by 31.1% in 2023

Kazakhstan’s production of green energy reached 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2023, marking a 31.1% increase compared to the previous year, the Bureau of National Statistics reported on Aug. 8.

In 2023, renewable energy sources comprised 5.8% of Kazakhstan’s total electricity generation, rising to 12.74% with the inclusion of large hydroelectric power plants.

Wind energy saw the highest growth, with generation increasing by 63.3% to 3.7 million kWh. Small hydroelectric plants produced 949.1 million kWh, marking a 16% increase.

Conversely, solar energy production decreased by 1.5% to 1.9 billion kWh, and biogas energy production fell by 52.1% to 1.4 million kWh. (Source:astanatimes)
