Kazakhstan’s Grain Exports to Afghanistan Surge Nearly Twofold

Grain exports from Kazakhstan to Afghanistan have nearly doubled between September 2025 and January 31, 2026, highlighting the country’s expanding role as a key grain supplier in Central and South Asia.

According to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company, Kazakhstan exported 5.8 million tons of grain during this period, an increase of 1 million tons compared to 4.8 million tons over the same period in 2024–2025.

The growth was primarily driven by rising shipments to traditional markets, reflecting Kazakhstan’s efforts to strengthen export capacity and diversify its supply geography.

Exports to Uzbekistan increased by 49%, rising from 1.813 million tons to 2.702 million tons, while shipments to the Kyrgyz Republic grew 1.7 times, from 95,000 tons to 163,000 tons. Grain exports to Afghanistan surged 1.9 times, reaching 416,000 tons, up from 216,000 tons a year earlier.
