Kazakhstan’s Agricultural Sector Experiences Notable Growth in the First Half of the Year

The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture plays an important role in the country’s economy, ensuring food security, promoting sustainable regional development, and creating jobs.

The Prime Minister’s press service is evaluating the performance of the country’s ministries for the first half of the year.

State support for the agriculture sector includes preferential financing, subsidies, and other measures to boost competitiveness both domestically and internationally.

In the first half of the year, Kazakhstan's gross agricultural output reached 1.6 trillion tenge (US$3.4 billion), driven by a 3.5% increase in livestock farming and a 3% rise in crop production. Notable gains include a 4.1% increase in meat production to 878,700 tons, a 4.8% rise in milk production to 1.7 million tons, and a 0.3% increase in chicken egg production to 2.1 billion pieces.

Significant production increases were also observed in cheese and cottage cheese (up 16.8%), processed rice (up 11%), vegetable oil (up 9.3%), and fermented milk products (up 5.6%).

Crop production gross output reached 72 billion tenge (US$151.8 million), up 3% from last year, with early vegetable and grain crops contributing substantially to this growth. Investment in fixed capital for food production rose by 5.4% to 68.7 billion tenge (US$144.8 million).

The total lending volume for spring field and harvesting work was increased to 580 billion tenge (US$1.2 billion). The proportion of elite seed varieties also rose to 9%.

A comprehensive plan for processing development through 2028 aims to increase the share of processed products to 70% of raw materials, with 372 billion tenge (US$784.3 million) allocated for its implementation.(Source:astanatimes)
