On September 9, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu and Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), agreed to sustain both bilateral and multilateral cooperation on food security issues under the aegis of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as reported by the ministry’s press service.
Nurtleu emphasized the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of IOFS projects by broadening cooperation with member states and involving both domestic and international agricultural experts. This, he noted, would support the development of IOFS as a specialized body within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Aryn reported on the progress of several key projects, particularly in addressing global challenges such as climate change, efficient water resource management, and supply chain disruptions.
The discussions also focused on the establishment of a Gene Bank in Kazakhstan to preserve agricultural biodiversity among IOFS members. Additionally, preparations for the seventh session of the IOFS General Assembly, scheduled for 2025 in Astana, were discussed, during which Kazakhstan is expected to assume the IOFS chairmanship.(Source:astanatimes)
