Kazakhstan Strengthens Role as Aviation Bridge Between Europe and Asia

Kazakhstan is solidifying its position as a key aviation hub as Almaty hosts the Third CANSO Euro-Asia ANSP CEO Summit, bringing together chief executives of air navigation service providers (ANSPs) from Europe and Asia, alongside representatives from global aviation organizations.

The summit focuses on key industry priorities, including advanced air traffic flow management, regional data exchange, and harmonized performance indicators to improve airline efficiency, reported RSE Kazaeronavigatsia.

Kazakhstan’s aviation sector achieved record performance in 2024, handling 446,106 flights across transit, international, domestic, and cargo categories. Transit flights accounted for 334,256 movements, an 8% increase from 2023. Passenger traffic rose to 29.7 million (+14%), while cargo flights grew over 55%.

RSE Kazaeronavigatsia, the country’s sole ANSP, manages air traffic safety and regularity across Kazakhstan’s airspace. Industry forecasts from EUROCONTROL and IATA project the Europe–Asia corridor as one of the fastest-growing aviation routes by 2050. To meet this demand, Kazakhstan is implementing a 2025–2035 strategy, including digitalization of aeronautical information management, automated NOTAM processing, and digital chart usage.

The program also involves developing new international routes, introducing performance-based navigation in mountainous regions such as Katon-Karagai, Kenderli, and Zaysan, and implementing automated ATC clearance delivery in Almaty and Astana, enhancing airport capacity and service quality for airlines.
