Kazakhstan Starts Construction of Airports in Resort Areas to Boost Tourism

Kazakhstan has commenced building three airports in Zaisan, Katon-Karagay, and Kendirli to enhance tourism and air travel, following President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's directive, the Transport Ministry reported .

Key Developments in 2024:

  • New Terminals: Almaty, Shymkent, and Kyzylorda launched passenger terminals with significant capacity expansions:
    • Almaty: Capacity increased from 2.5M to 14M passengers annually; flights operate to 26 countries across 50 routes.
    • Shymkent: Capacity grew from 800,000 to 6M passengers, adding international routes to destinations like Jeddah, Doha, and Phuket.
    • Kyzylorda: Korkyt Ata Airport now handles up to 2M passengers, with 25 domestic routes.
