Kazakhstan Reports High Digital Literacy and Internet Usage

Kazakhstan continues to demonstrate strong digital engagement, with recent data from the Bureau of National Statistics revealing that over 96% of the population are active internet users and more than 92% possess high levels of digital literacy.

The 2024 survey, conducted among 21,000 households nationwide, showed that 90.9% of individuals aged 16 to 74 regularly use a computer, laptop, or tablet, while 96.2% access the internet—including through mobile connections.

Digital literacy remains robust across the population, with 92.8% of respondents proficient in using personal computers, smartphones, tablets, standard software programs, and online services, according to the report released on April 24.

Mobile phones are nearly ubiquitous in Kazakh households, with a usage rate of 99.3%. Other technologies include cable TV (23.3%), satellite TV (31.8%), desktop computers (39.4%), laptops (59.9%), and tablets (32.2%).

The most common online activity was messaging (69.6%), followed by participation in social networks (65.8%) and downloading digital content such as movies, music, and games (48.1%).

E-commerce is also gaining momentum, with 28.5% of respondents reporting online purchases. Clothing and footwear led the category (62.1%), followed by food (49.1%) and cosmetics (32.7%).
