Kazakhstan Ranks 55th in Global AI and Human Skills Index
Kazakhstan placed 55th among 98 countries in the 2026 AI-Human Skills Synergy Index, included in Coursera’s Global Skills Report 2026, according to the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The index examines how learners combine artificial intelligence competencies with human skills required to use AI effectively. These include critical thinking, leadership, communication and complex problem-solving.
Coursera’s methodology considers several indicators, including the acquisition of different skills, the range of competencies learners study and the extent to which AI-related skills are developed together with human competencies. The assessment also draws on the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index, which evaluates countries’ capacity to adopt and use AI based on areas such as government policy, infrastructure, human capital and the development of the AI sector.
Commenting on Kazakhstan’s approach to AI education, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek highlighted the national AI-Sana program. He said the initiative is intended not only to broaden access to AI knowledge but also to help students adapt to changing requirements in the labor market.
Kazakhstan’s position in the index reflects interest among active users of digital learning platforms in developing both technical AI capabilities and the human competencies needed to apply them. These skills are becoming increasingly relevant as AI tools are integrated into education, professional activities and workplace processes.
At the same time, the index has methodological limitations. Coursera’s data primarily reflects learning activity among users of its platform rather than the skills of the entire population of each country.
The ranking therefore provides an international measure of AI and human-skills development among participants in digital learning, while also highlighting the broader shift toward combining technical AI knowledge with human competencies in workforce development.
