Kazakhstan, Italy Sign Agreement to Establish Cultural Restoration Center

Kazakhstan and Italy signed a memorandum of understanding on Oct. 7 in Astana to establish a restoration and conservation center at the National Museum of Kazakhstan, marking a new stage in bilateral cultural cooperation, reported the museum’s press service.

The agreement was signed by Luigi Oliva, Director of Italy’s Central Institute of Restoration (ICR), and Akmaral Ibrayeva, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the National Museum. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva and Italian Ambassador Antonello De Riu.

The initiative envisions the creation of modern laboratories, joint scientific and restoration projects, and professional training programs to advance expertise in the preservation of cultural heritage.

The partnership also aims to enhance cultural and scientific dialogue through joint exhibitions, publications, and educational activities focused on protecting and showcasing historical and artistic heritage.

During the signing ceremony, the parties discussed practical steps for implementation, including expert exchanges, skills development, and collaborative research in restoration and museum studies.
