Kazakhstan Introduces Region’s First AI-Powered Board Member

Kazakhstan has unveiled the Samruk-Kazyna Artificial Intelligence Neural Network (SKAI), the region’s first AI-powered independent member of a Board of Directors with voting rights. The system was presented by the Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund to President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev at the Digital Bridge Forum in Astana on Oct. 2.

SKAI is designed to enhance corporate governance by combining human decision-making with artificial intelligence. The system analyzes internal and external regulations, historical Board decisions dating back to 2008, and other corporate records, providing data-driven insights to support strategic choices.

Security and national sovereignty are central to SKAI. It operates on the AlFarabium-2 supercomputer, part of Kazakhtelecom, a Fund portfolio company, ensuring that data remains within Kazakhstan. The platform runs on the Kazakh-language Alem LLM model, leveraging NVIDIA H200 processors for high-speed, reliable performance. The neural network will undergo its first test at the Fund’s next Board of Directors meeting, marking the beginning of its integration into governance practices. The initiative is part of Samruk-Kazyna’s broader digitalization and management transformation strategy.
