Kazakhstan Intends to Strengthen Human Rights, Democratic Reforms

Kazakhstan plans to prioritize initiatives focusing on gender equality and domestic violence prevention at the upcoming sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) this year, as announced by First Deputy Foreign Minister Kairat Umarov, according to a report from the Foreign Ministry on February 13th.

During the meeting attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in Kazakhstan, Umarov provided a report on the political and human rights reforms undertaken in 2023, along with Kazakhstan's priorities and plans for its final year of membership in the HRC.

A significant achievement for Kazakhstan during its HRC membership last year was the adoption of a resolution on ensuring quality education for peace and tolerance for every child, which was initiated by Kazakhstan.

Deputy Justice Minister Botagoz Zhakselekova presented the outcomes of the implemented reforms in human rights, which included the decentralization of the political system, simplification of party registration procedures, and enhancement of citizens' rights protection. Ambassador-at-Large of the Foreign Ministry Alua Nadirkulova underscored the importance of the consultative and advisory body, the dialogue platform on the human dimension.(Source:astanatimes)
