Kazakhstan Grants Special Status to Seven Strategic Projects Involving ADB, EBRD, and IFC

On July 31, the Government of Kazakhstan officially designated seven projects involving the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as projects of special significance, as per a decree published on the official legal portal Adilet.zan.kz.

In collaboration with the ADB, Kazakhstan is undertaking the construction and operation of five student dormitories providing a total of 5,900 beds at Satbayev University in Almaty. Additionally, the ADB is engaged in the development and operation of the Almaty-Issyk-Kul highway, as well as three 300-bed multidisciplinary university hospitals located in Karagandy, Semei, and Aktobe.

The EBRD is co-financing a separate 300-bed multidisciplinary university hospital in Almaty, further strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Meanwhile, the IFC is supporting a strategic water infrastructure project: the construction of a seawater desalination plant in the Mangystau Region with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day, addressing regional water scarcity challenges.
