Almassadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of Kazakhstan’s newly established Nuclear Energy Agency, held negotiations on March 26 with Whang Joo-ho, President and CEO of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP), a potential supplier of nuclear technologies for Kazakhstan’s proposed nuclear power plant, according to the agency’s press service.
Satkaliyev emphasized KHNP’s extensive experience in designing, constructing, and operating modern reactors, highlighting the importance of an open and competitive dialogue with international partners. Whang Joo-ho reaffirmed South Korea’s readiness to share its expertise and strengthen bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy.
The final decision now rests with Kazakhstan’s interdepartmental commission, which will review the proposal as part of the country's broader nuclear energy development strategy.
