Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar signed agreements with China to strengthen interdepartmental cooperation in water resources and archival affairs during his working visit to the country. The agreements were finalized at the March 19 meeting of the Kazakhstan-China Committee.
According to the Prime Minister’s press service, the parties agreed to expand the Committee’s structure by adding a Coordinating Committee for Industrial and Investment Cooperation and establishing a subcommittee on education.
Expanding Economic and Trade Relations
Discussions focused on facilitating barrier-free trade, enhancing transport interconnectivity, and increasing joint investment projects in Kazakhstan, particularly in localized production. Both sides emphasized the importance of boosting trade efficiency and fostering a favorable investment climate.
During talks with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, both sides reviewed key areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, transport and logistics, agriculture, energy, and tourism. The discussions reflected positively on the growing economic ties between the two nations, as bilateral trade reached $43.8 billion in 2023.
Strategic Industry Cooperation
Sklyar held meetings with leading Chinese industry representatives to explore collaboration in metallurgy, energy, mechanical engineering, and the agro-industrial sector. The discussions highlighted the potential for increased joint investment in Kazakhstan, particularly in key sectors such as coal chemistry, automotive manufacturing, deep processing of agricultural products, and renewable energy sources.
The agreements signed mark another step in strengthening bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and China, reinforcing economic partnerships and facilitating long-term cooperation in critical sectors.
