Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic advanced their economic partnership during the 12th Kazakh-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Council meeting, held on December 3-4 in Bishkek. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Kyrgyz Chairman Akylbek Zhaparov discussed key areas of cooperation, including trade, logistics, energy, and water resources.
Trade turnover between the two nations exceeded $1.2 billion in the first nine months of 2024, a 1.6% increase from 2023. The leaders highlighted the development of the Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex at the Karasu and Ak-Tilek checkpoints, aimed at boosting mutual trade to $3 billion by 2030.
The meeting also addressed the modernization of seven border checkpoints, contributing to a 4.1% increase in road transport volumes. A number of agreements were signed, including a roadmap for agricultural product exchanges and a tourism development cooperation memorandum.
In conjunction with the meeting, a business forum held on December 2 resulted in the signing of seven commercial agreements worth $8.2 million, further enhancing bilateral economic ties.
