Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underscored these priorities during a meeting on February 25 with Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration, who conducted his first official foreign visit to Astana, as reported by Akorda.

Kasymaliev emphasized the deepening of political, trade, economic, water, energy, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the two nations. He affirmed that all tasks set by the leaders of both countries are being developed in close collaboration with their Kazakh counterparts.

During discussions with Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, it was noted that mutual trade reached $1.7 billion in the previous year. The talks also addressed ongoing border checkpoint upgrades aimed at increasing capacity.

Prime Minister Bektenov highlighted the importance of ensuring water supply along the Shu and Talas rivers, maintaining the Kirov Reservoir, and strengthening regional energy security.

In the tourism sector, both parties discussed developing cross-border eco-routes, enhancing active tourism infrastructure, and attracting investment in the hospitality industry.
