Kazakhstan and International Airlines Expand Routes for Spring Season

Kazakhstan's aviation sector is witnessing a significant expansion as both domestic and international carriers announce new routes for the upcoming spring season. The move is expected to strengthen the country's transit capacity and foster greater international connectivity.

IndiGo, India's largest low-cost airline, will launch a new Astana-Delhi route starting May 14, with flights operating three times a week on Airbus aircraft. The new route is set to enhance cooperation between Kazakhstan and India, contributing to the development of Kazakhstan's growing transit potential.

Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s flagship airline, is also boosting its service to India by adding additional flights on the Almaty—Mumbai route from April 20. This expansion is expected to cater to increasing demand for travel between the two countries, further strengthening the bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, Air Cairo is tapping into the growing demand for leisure travel, with plans to introduce weekly flights from Kostanai to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and two weekly flights from Almaty to Hurghada starting this spring-summer season. The airline will also resume weekly flights from Almaty to El Alamein.

In a bid to expand its international network, Air Astana will also launch new routes to Vietnam in March. The airline will offer four weekly flights from Almaty to Nha Trang and three weekly flights from Astana to Nha Trang. These new routes will cater to the increasing demand for direct connectivity to Southeast Asia.

Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines is further contributing to the growing network with the introduction of a new route connecting Shymkent to Budapest, which will begin on May 27, operating twice a week. Additionally, the airline is planning an expansion of its services, with a focus on European destinations and other popular travel hubs.

In January, Qazaq Air launched subsidized flights on the Kostanai—Turkistan and Karagandy—Turkistan routes, aiming to improve domestic connectivity and support regional travel within Kazakhstan.

Additionally, a new terminal at Shymkent airport is set to open, which will offer 14 domestic and 16 international routes this year, including destinations in Europe, China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the United Arab Emirates, and Belarus, as confirmed by Victoria Starozhilova, SCAT Airlines spokesperson.
