Kazakhstan and Germany Strengthen Strategic Economic Partnership
Kazakhstan continues to prioritize the deepening of bilateral cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany, recognizing Germany as a key strategic partner within the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin stated during a meeting on January 28 with Dominik Mutter, Political Director of the German Federal Foreign Office.
The discussions underscored that trade and investment relations remain the cornerstone of Kazakh–German engagement. Germany currently ranks seventh among Kazakhstan’s trading partners, with bilateral trade totaling USD 3.9 billion from January to November 2025, including USD 1.2 billion in exports (+7.9%) and USD 2.7 billion in imports (+6.1%).
Both parties highlighted the importance of diversifying trade structures and promoting the transfer of advanced technologies to strategic sectors of the Kazakh economy. The Intergovernmental Commission and the Kazakh–German Business Council continue to provide a robust institutional framework for cooperation, with 36 investment projects involving German companies valued at EUR 49.7 billion (USD 59.4 billion), 23 of which have been commissioned. The officials also emphasized the expansion of joint financing mechanisms for priority projects, including industrial modernization and green energy development, with German financial institutions participating through the Kazakh–German joint financing framework. Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to advancing cooperation with German partners in hydrogen energy, green energy initiatives, and the development of sustainable steel production.
In the agro-industrial sector, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the Regional Center for Sustainable Agriculture in Central Asia and the establishment of a Coordinating Council tasked with defining strategic priorities and formats for future collaboration.
