Kazakhstan and China Reaffirm Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in Tianjin

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of China Xi Jinping held talks on Aug. 30 in Tianjin, reaffirming the unprecedented level of bilateral relations and their commitment to further strengthening the eternal comprehensive strategic partnership.

The leaders emphasized record levels of trade, large-scale joint projects, and deepening cultural and humanitarian cooperation as key pillars of the partnership. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover reached a historic $44 billion. Both sides confirmed their determination to continue implementing major initiatives in transport and logistics, energy, agriculture, digitalization, and artificial intelligence.

President Tokayev expressed appreciation for China’s warm hospitality and reiterated Kazakhstan’s full support for China’s chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He highlighted the importance of the SCO agenda in promoting regional stability and multilateral cooperation. Tokayev also welcomed the designation of 2025 as the Year of Chinese Tourism in Kazakhstan, the expansion of Lu Ban workshops, and the forthcoming opening of the Cultural Center of Kazakhstan in Beijing.

President Xi commended Kazakhstan’s active participation in the SCO summit and commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II. He stressed that the second presidential meeting within two months demonstrates the unique and enduring nature of Kazakh-Chinese relations, which are consistently based on good-neighborliness, mutual trust, openness, and cooperation. The two presidents also exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable development.
