Kazakhstan Among World’s Leading Agricultural Landholders

Kazakhstan ranks among the world’s largest holders of agricultural land, highlighting its strategic role in global food systems.

According to Food and Agriculture Organization data compiled by the World Bank, Kazakhstan is among the top six countries by total agricultural land area, with approximately 827,000 square miles dedicated to farming. This places the country alongside major agricultural producers such as the United States, China, and Australia.

Globally, arable land covers about 18.1 million square miles—roughly equivalent to the combined area of two North Americas. China leads with around two million square miles of agricultural land, followed by the United States at 1.6 million square miles and Australia at 1.4 million. Kazakhstan’s extensive agricultural resources position it as a key contributor to global food production and supply chains.
