Kazakh Foreign Ministry Hosts Meeting on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting to discuss the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, focusing on measures to improve citizens' quality of life. The session, held under the Dialogue Platform on the Human Dimension, featured input from government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations.

Zauresh Battalova, president of the Parliamentary System Development Foundation, proposed adopting legislative provisions to define and evaluate a sufficient quality of life for Kazakh citizens. An alternative report by the Coalition of Kazakh Non-Governmental Human Rights Organizations outlined challenges and recommendations for economic, social, cultural rights, and education.

First Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Akmadi Sarbasov highlighted progress since Kazakhstan's 2019 UN report, citing measures such as the adoption of a Social Code, the Concept of Migration Policy until 2027, and a National Plan for improving the rights of persons with disabilities by 2025.

The event emphasized open dialogue and practical recommendations to strengthen citizen rights. It was co-chaired by Ambassador-at-Large Alua Nadirkulova and Sarbasov, with participation from parliament members, human rights groups, and international observers from UNDP, OHCHR, and the EU.

The Dialogue Platform, launched in 2013, continues to serve as a bridge between the government and civil society on pressing human rights issues.
