Kazakh Classic ‘My Name is Kozha’ Presented at UNESCO in Paris

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris hosted a presentation of the Kazakh novel “My Name is Kozha” by renowned children’s author Berdibek Sokpakbaev, newly translated into French, at a Nov. 6 conference celebrating Sokpakbaev’s 100th anniversary.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, attendees at the event expressed their conviction that the French edition of the book will serve as a valuable introduction for young readers to the unique cultural heritage of Kazakhstan, emphasizing the nation’s rich traditions and values.

The narrative centers around Kozha, an energetic and mischievous boy from a Kazakh village, whose bold ambitions and strong sense of justice frequently lead him into challenging situations. Nevertheless, he confronts each obstacle with sincerity and wit, confronting social injustices and questioning adult authority.

The inclusion of the centenary of Sokpakbaev in the UNESCO commemorations highlights the significance of his enduring contribution to global culture. A member of the Kazakhstan Writers' Union since 1952, Sokpakbaev is regarded as a seminal figure in Kazakh children's literature, and his works continue to be widely appreciated and studied.
