The Kazakh Business Activity Index saw an increase in February

In February, Kazakhstan's Business Activity Index (BAI), a gauge of the real sector's economic health, demonstrated growth, as announced by the National Bank on March 4. The services and manufacturing sectors sustained favorable readings, while there was notable improvement in the mining and construction industries.

According to the National Bank, the Business Activity Index (BAI) for February increased to 50.0 points, up from 49.7 in January. This uptick was driven by improvements in the construction and mining sectors, although they remained in negative territory. Notably, delivery times in the mining industry also decreased.

Enterprises' assessments of current business conditions improved, rising to 1.6 points in February compared to 0.8 points in January. Additionally, the outlook for future business conditions for the next six months rose to 19.7 points, up from 17.6 in January.

The BAI serves as an important indicator of the real sector's economic health, aiding in the analysis of economic trends and identifying critical points in the business cycle. Compiled through a monthly survey of enterprises conducted by the National Bank, the BAI captures actual changes in economic indicators and expectations for future changes.
