In 2023, environmental protection expenses reached 610 billion tenge (US$1.3 billion), which is 37.2% more than in 2022.
The Akmola Region led in environmental spending with 127.7 billion tenge (US$268.6 million), making up 20.9% of the total. Following were the Atyrau, Pavlodar, and Aktobe Regions. The lowest spending, at 1.5 billion tenge (US$3.1 million), was in the Zhetisu Region. Industrial enterprises covered 97.2% of these costs.
Key areas of expenditure included 33.2% for energy-saving technologies and enhanced energy efficiency, 21.6% for waste management, and 20% allocated to air protection and climate change mitigation efforts.(Source:astanatimes)
